Workplace Giving

When my parents came to Canada in the 1950s they had a good opportunity to start a new life. They spoke the language, my dad quickly got a good job, and soon they were into a home of their own and starting a family. Their Canadian dream flourished.

But today, many newcomers in our community face a different reality. Despite strong skills, experience and a dream to succeed and contribute, they face huge barriers.

I’ve become much more aware of their struggle since becoming involved with United Way. The fact that Canada welcomed Mom and Dad and helped them build a better life for our family motivates me to lead the United Way campaign this year. The opportunity to give back is a privilege.

United Way goes far beyond helping newcomers reach their potential; it helps us all. Whether it’s a family coping with the serious illness of a loved one, a new parent struggling with overwhelming responsibilities, a senior battling loneliness, or a teen searching for recreational opportunities, United Way is here.

United Way is great for business too. That’s because United Way helps build a strong and thriving community, making it easier to attract and retain employees and business opportunities. Running a campaign in your workplace to support United Way’s Community Fund helps build strong teams, boosts morale, and unites employees in an inspirational cause. Employees take pride in organizations that demonstrate social responsibility.

Please join me in giving generously to United Way. Make our community great!
