IMPACT SERIES: This Agency Brings Endless Volunteer Opportunities to Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga
This huge agency supports and promotes volunteerism across three cities. Finding meaningful volunteer work couldn’t be easier thanks to them.
Drumroll, please, for this incredible agency!
Volunteer MBC (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon) provides a volunteer opportunity search platform for anyone across Peel Region. Volunteers can search for opportunities, create profiles, and apply for positions all through Volunteer MBC’s handy website.
Here’s what their marketing coordinator, Faisal Ikram, has to tell you:
"The centre strives to be a strong voice to support and promote volunteerism. Volunteer MBC is the perfect platform for youth to find meaningful volunteer opportunities. Our youth programs are designed to develop leadership skills along with skills in project management, community engagement, and service excellence.
These opportunities are provided through four key platforms:
- Step Up, our Youth Volunteer Ambassadors, are a dynamic group of youth grades 7 to 12. Step Up collaborates with elementary students, high school students, post-secondary students, youth-led and youth-focused groups, and community service organizations to increase youth volunteers in the community.
- Youth LEaD (Youth Leadership Education and Development) inspires and motivates youth, especially those in high school, to work towards social empowerment.
- During the spring and summer, we deliver a youth engagement campaign that promotes volunteering at events across Peel region. This service is open to all member organizations and youth-led groups in Peel.
- The V-Oscars is the only annual volunteer recognition awards gala in Peel. The two awards categories exclusively dedicated to youth volunteerism give our member organizations an exciting opportunity to nominate their exemplary youth volunteer stars.
Our engagement with youth demonstrates that year after year, they are making a difference by giving back to the community.
The brother and sister duo of Ramneek Kaur and Sidak Manchanda are two such success stories. These past Chairs of Step Up believe that the experiences and skills they gained at Volunteer MBC helped them immensely in the success of their post-secondary and scholarship applications. Skyla Thadani is the current Chair, and her mother, Monica, observed the growing leadership skills in her daughter after she became a part of Volunteer MBC.
Now our alumni are having prosperous careers; among their professions is an educational software designer, neurosurgeon, dentist, and international development officer, to name but a few.
Volunteer MBC is a capacity builder in the non-profit sector of Peel region. We support community service organizations in their volunteer programming by providing them with a volunteer matching service and professional development opportunities.
It is rewarding to know we can support organizations confronting community challenges, while helping individual volunteers channel their passion into impactful action.
Without United Way, Volunteer MBC most likely would not exist. They were instrumental in supporting a study entitled “Review of Volunteerism in Peel” to determine whether there was a need for a Volunteer Centre in Peel, which identified that a central “one-stop shop” was essential to engage residents of all ages in meaningful volunteer opportunities. They have believed in the work we do ever since and their generous support has allowed us succeed."
When you give to United Way, you allow Volunteer MBC to run their programs across the community!
