Shelley White
President and Chief Executive Officer

Shelley White joined United Way in 2003 as our Chief Executive Officer. She has over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and is an active leader in our community.

Since joining United Way, Shelley has helped to greatly increase United Way’s profile in our community. She is chair of the Healthy City Stewardship Centre, co-chair of the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group, Mississauga Summit and Peel Poverty Reduction Committee, is a member of Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council and Sheridan College Board of Directors, Fair Share Peel, the Success By 6 Council of Champions, and the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Steering Committee.

Shelley holds a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree from Brock University.

 

Shirley Crocker, C.G.A.
Vice President, Finance and Administration

Shirley Crocker joined United Way of Peel Region in 1998 as Director of Finance and Administration. She provides direction and leadership on all matters relating to United Way of Peel financial services, information services and financial aspect of donor services and safekeeping of UWPR assets.

Shirley holds a Certified General Accountant designation. Her extensive career in finance includes more than 20 years experience working in the private sector with Canada’s largest forest products organization, MacMillan Bloedel Building Materials. She is a member of Imagine Canada’s – CRA Technical Advisory sub-committee – developing a comprehensive web resource to assist the charitable sector.

 

Marilyn Friedmann
Chief Development Officer

Marilyn Friedmann joined United Way in July 2010 as Chief Development Officer. She is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of all functions pertaining to Resource Development: annual campaign; major individual giving; planned giving; the endowment fund and special gift initiatives.

Marilyn holds the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. Her extensive career in marketing, fundraising and consulting spans more than 20 years working in the private and nonprofit sectors. She has served with Nestle Enterprises, Manulife Financial, Mattel Canada, Best Foods, The Campbell Soup Company, Sun Life Financial, CIBC, Scotiabank, World Vision Canada, Plan International of Canada, The Prospectors and Developers Association, Starbucks Coffee Canada, Canadian Crossroads International, University of St. Michael's College, Mennonite Economic Development Associates.

In 2007, Marilyn received accreditation with the Partnership Brokers Accreditation Scheme in the U.K., a program designed to address the need for effective multi-sector partnerships between business, government and civil society. In 2006, she received the Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. Marilyn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Economics from The University of Guelph.

Marilyn's personal mission statement is to enhance quality of life, safeguard natural resources and compel action in order to alleviate suffering among the world's poor and vulnerable.

 

Doris Mohrhardt
Vice President, Communications & Marketing

Doris joined United Way of Peel Region as Vice-President, Communications & Marketing in August 2011.

Doris is an experienced communications, external relations and fundraising leader who brings enthusiasm and passion for excellence to her efforts. She has extensive expertise in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

Before joining United Way, Doris was the Director of Communications at Trillium Health Centre, a position she held for five years. Prior to this position, she worked with Trillium Health Centre Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and Canadian Stage Company in a fundraising capacity. Doris currently sits on the Humber College Public Relations Advisory Committee.

Doris holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from York University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations from Humber College. In 2011, she successfully completed the Rotman School of Management Leadership Program.

 

Anita Stellinga
Vice President, Community Investment

Anita Stellinga began her career with United Way in 1995 and was appointed Director, Community Investment in 2000. She was appointed the Interim Director, Resource Development in January 2010.

Prior to joining United Way, Anita was a member of the senior management team of the Poly-Cultural Immigrant Community Services organization. In addition to managing various programs for women, seniors, substance abuse and language instruction, Anita also founded the Sunshine Summer Day Camp in West Toronto which provided summer camp opportunities to low-income families. She is a member of the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group, The Peel Poverty Strategy Group, Member of the 211 Advisory Group for the Region of Peel, Co-chair of the Funders Consortium, and a member of the Human Services Taskforce of the Mississauga Summit.

Anita holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto. She has served as a board member for the Tatry Non-Profit Housing Association, volunteered for Distress Centre of Peel, the Canadian Polish Congress and served on the school parent Council. She is currently a nationally certified Community Impact Trainer with United Way/Centraide Canada.
