Options Mississauga Print and Office Services is a non profit Social Purpose Enterprise. Our mission is to prepare individuals who have an intellectual disability with the skills necessary to obtain meaningful employment in the community. To provide an infrastructure for our mission we operate a retail storefront business in the Port Credit area of Mississauga. Our core product is printing, but we also offer over a dozen other services and products including graphic design, Purolator shipping, binding and collating, fax, internet cafe, mailboxes. The people we support work alongside regular employees to provide a unique and "real" training environment. Our social mission has been very successful, and our business has grown exponentially over the last few years.

Responsibilities:

The position is full time (35 hours per week) Monday to Friday, daily 12:30 pm until 8 pm. including unpaid lunch break. The successful candidate will work inside the store serving walk-in customers and assisting with other production work and general store functions as required under the direction of the Store Manager. Starting salary is per hour.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a retail sales environment
  • Have a professional and positive attitude and appearance to deal successfully with customers, be punctual and dependable
  • Have general computer skills and an aptitude and willingness to learn new programs as required
  • Be flexible and work well in a team environment
  • Preference will be given to applicants with computer networking skills and graphic design experience - with potential for increased earnings

Developmental Services Worker

Options Mississauga is a non-profit charity which operates a retail storefront in the Port Credit area of Mississauga. We offer more than a dozen printing and business services to the community. The mission of Options is to prepare people who have an intellectual disability (“co-workers”) with the skills necessary to obtain meaningful employment in the community. We do this by having such individuals enter an Employment Training Program where they work in our inclusive environment. Depending on specific needs and goals, co-workers learn such skills as business etiquette, serving customers, answering phones and handling a cash register. They also learn specific skills such as photocopying and faxing.

Responsibilities:

As a Developmental Services Worker you will help operate Options' Employment Training Program. Your primary responsibility is to support the co-workers in practicing their work and basic academic skills in an inclusive and intimate work environment setting.

  • Participate as a volunteer in Options events, or meetings as required
  • Support the co-workers of Options' Employment Training Program with their daily tasks and responsibilities. Such tasks include: Supporting co-workers with their basic math, reading, writing and computer skills; Help co-workers with Purolator, assisting customers and processing sales; Help co-workers learn how to manage job responsibilities and how to act in a workplace setting
  • To help the Coordinator of Options' Employment Training Program ensure all progress plans are in place for the co-workers and with any administrative work as required

Qualifications:

  • Community College Diploma in Human Services (DSW, SSW, C.W. etc) preferred
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to work in an established team environment
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Ability to self organize and multi-task in a busy office environment and be flexible
  • Ability to facilitate group work with tight deadlines and quality control requirements
  • Ability to support participants in the Employment Training Program meet and develop their needs and goals
  • Knowledge, and empathetic understanding, of issues related to the training and support of individuals who have an intellectual disability
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Positive attitude and results-driven

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education: diploma or degree in Social Work or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in settlement work or community work.
  • Experience in a school environment is an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Effective English language communication skills both oral and written
  • Fluency in Mandarin language is required ( knowledge of additional languages /particularly Cantonese an asset)
  • Ability to work with school personnel in meeting the needs of newcomer students and their families.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy in data collection
  • Strong computer skills in Windows, MS Word, Email and the Internet.
