Judy Burns
Acting Vice President, Planning and Regional Programs
Cancer Care Ontario

Judy BurnsJudy Burns has been with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) since November 2006. CCO is the provincial agency responsible for guiding cancer care delivery in Ontario. In addition to being responsible for Ontario’s Cancer plan, she works with regional cancer programs to ensure that cancer priorities are implemented. Ms. Burns is responsible for the development and management of contracts with Ontario hospitals to provide incremental cancer services. She also provides leadership in the performance management for the regions through a formal quarterly reporting process, maintenance of a regional performance scorecard and ongoing performance review with the regions.

Ms. Burns has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Masters degree in Health Administration and is a Certified Health Services Executive with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.

Ms. Burns is Past Chair of the Board of Directors of ErinoakKids. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Tim Bzowey
Vice President, Property & Casualty - RBC Insurance

Tim BzoweyTim Bzowey is an executive at RBC with close to 20 years experience spanning banking, wealth management and insurance. He has an extensive background in sales, sales leadership, and business management. He is currently the head of RBC’s Property & Casualty business in Canada and is accountable for the strategy, management and financial performance of one of Canada’s fastest growing providers of home, auto and travel insurance.

Mr. Bzowey received his Bachelors degree from the University of Saskatchewan and his Masters of Business Administration from Athabasca University. He also holds the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation. He is an active member of the Ontario-wide RBC Charity Trust Campaign Cabinet and has been involved with United Way in several different capacities. In 2009 he joined the United Way of Peel as a Campaign Cabinet member and was delighted to accept an invitation to be the 2011 Campaign Cabinet Chair.

Linda Kuga-Pikulin

Linda Kuga-PikulinLinda Kuga Pikulin is the former President of Pepsico Beverages Canada. She was responsible for Pepsico Canada’s bottling enterprise and its beverage portfolio of brands including Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7Up, Aquafina, Lipton, Tropicana and Gatorade. Prior to this position, she was President of Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) Canada, making her PBG’s highest ranking female operating executive.

In 2004, she founded the Dr. Donna J. Kuga Trustee Scholarship Program at Penn State University that helps students with financial needs. Ms. Kuga Pikulin has also been recognized by the Women’s Executive Network in Canada for two consecutive years as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women.

Ms. Kuga Pikulin is extremely committed to the community. In addition to her work on United Way’s Campaign Cabinet – including serving as Campaign Cabinet Chair in 2007 – she is a Corporate Director for the Credit Valley Foundation Board. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Snigdha Malik
Branch Manager, Advent Financial Group

Snigdha MalikSnigdha Malik is a Director on the Governing Council of the Brampton Board of Trade (BBoT). As an ambassador for the BBoT she mentors new members. She acts as liaison between the Multicultural Committee for Brampton Board of Trade and the Governing Council.

Ms. Malik is the current President of the Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Club of Brampton. She is an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel, Peel Committee on Sexual Assault, Rape Crisis Centre of Peel, and the Canadian Cancer Society. She has supported the North Park Secondary School’s International Co-op program since its inception in 1996. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2009.

Shaila Mehta, CA
Partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Shaila MehtaShaila Mehta has over 20 years of experience in providing audit and advisory services specializing in the manufacturing and mining industries. She has served large and small, public and private audit clients and has significant experience in both Canadian and American GAAP reporting and IFRS reporting. Ms. Mehta is the Human Resources partner for her business unit at Deloitte. She has also been the partner in charge of learning and growth for the GTA audit practitioners and the partner in charge of recruiting at the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Ms. Mehta is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor in Business Administration from York University. She was a Board Member and Treasurer of the Mississauga Board of Trade from 2004 – 2006. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2008.

Louroz Mercader
President, Mississauga Youth Games

Louroz Mercader A Filipino-born Canadian, Louroz Mercader is the Founder and President of the Mississauga Youth Games (MY Games). As a passionate advocate for youth issues he has played a leading role in the development of numerous youth engagement programs. He is a past chairperson of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee and founded both Mississauga Youth Week and the Institute for Youth Citizenship. Prior to his position at Youth Can Move the World, Mr. Mercader served as a Communications Strategist for a local Member of Provincial Parliament.

Mr. Mercader received the Canada Day Youth Award in 2000 and was awarded the 2001 Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2006.

Geovanni Mosquera
Manager Client Relations and Planning, Regional Municipality of Peel

Geovanni MosqueraGeovanni Mosquera is a senior information technology manager at the Region of Peel. He has over 25 years of IT experience in government, oil & gas, banking and software industries in Canada and Latin America. He complements his skills with a strong background in organizational change management, program and project management, ISO 9000 and enterprise architecture, all areas where he holds professional certifications.

Mr. Mosquera is co-founder and a member of the board of directors of the Latin Project Management Network, a small volunteered-based organization focusing on assisting professionals from all countries and professions to settle in Canada and find jobs in their careers. He is also serves as a mentor through Peel’s Mentoring Initiative program. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2010.

Carl Oxholm
Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Carl Oxholm Carl Oxholm is a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He is a corporate tax partner, leading teams who service multinational corporations and assisting with inbound/outbound tax planning. He is also the National Coaching Leader for the partners of the Canadian firm. Mr. Oxholm is Champion for the PwC Charitable Foundation within the GTA. In this capacity he teams with the National Chair of the Foundation to develop additional programs and opportunities for people within the firm to enjoy.

In 2006 he was recognized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario with the ICAO Award of Distinction for his demonstrated leadership and performance within the profession and his community. Mr. Oxholm has chaired numerous committees in the non-profit sector. In 2010, he received an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for 10 years of service. Mr. Oxholm was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2009.

Joseph Palumbo, CMA
Executive Director, Career Development Centre, The Schulich School of Business

Joseph PalumboJoseph Palumbo is an executive coach, a leadership trainer, a team leader and global brand builder. He has a marketing degree from York University, an MBA from The Schulich School of Business, and a Chartered Director designation from McMaster University & The Conference Board of Canada. Mr. Palumbo is a Certified Management Accountant and was honoured with the national award of FCMA for his leadership to the profession and the community.

Mr. Palumbo is an active member of an extensive number of professional organizations including United Ways of Ontario, and The Global Resources Committee for the National Association of Colleges & Employers. He is Chair of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee & Director of The Board of Governors for CMA Ontario. Mr. Palumbo was elected to United Way's Board of Directors in 2006 and Campaign Cabinet in 2007. In 2008/09 he served as Chair of the Board.

Sadaf Parvaiz
Inclusiveness Consultant, Ernst & Young

Sadaf ParvaizSadaf Parvaiz holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from York University (Canada), a Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and holds a Certified Public Accounting designation in the U.S. She is working towards a Certificate in Intercultural Studies and provides coaching to leaders in her organization on leading and leveraging diverse teams.

Ms. Parvaiz’s responsibilities at Ernst & Young are to co-develop and implement strategies and initiatives to help the firm progress on its journey toward being a truly inclusive workplace.

Her volunteer activities have included the Brampton Safe City Council and the Society of Pakistani Canadian Professionals and Academics. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Joanne Pattison
Regional Municipality of Peel

Joanne PattisonJoanne joined the Region of Peel staff in 1984 and is currently the Supervisor of Performance Measurement for the Human Services Department. In her 27-year career, Joanne has demonstrated leadership and expertise in a broad range of Human Services roles, including Children’s Services, Ontario Works, Homelessness, Quality Assurance and Performance Measurement.

Joanne is a graduate of Ryerson University and of Sheridan College. She holds a designation as a certified Quality Practitioner and worked on the team that led the Region of Peel to the National Quality Institute Canada’s Award for Excellence. She has served as a community volunteer with Brampton Safe City, Residents groups and Neighbourhood Advisory committees. Joanne is a founding member of the Region of Peel’s Toastmasters. She joined the United Way’s Community Investment Cabinet in 2007 and the board in 2011.

Serge Rochette
Vice President, Network Operations, Rogers Cablesystems

Serge RochetteSerge Rochette holds a BA from Université Laval specializing in electrical engineering. Following an expansive career at CNCP Telecommunications, he joined Rogers Cablesystems in 1996. Mr. Rochette is currently responsible for the Network Management and Service Management Processes across the Rogers Communications organization.

Mr. Rochette has mentored and trained several directors/managers, negotiated numerous Service Level Agreements with Canadian and American carriers, represents Rogers Communications in North America Operational work groups, and has written and presented many papers on HFC Network Management. He is also involved with several professional associations and has sat on numerous Boards including Ontario One, the Théátre français de Toronto, the Masters of Engineering and Telecommunications (MET) Advisory Board of University of Toronto. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2009.

John Russo
Partner, Pallett Valo LLP

John RussoJohn Russo is a partner at Pallett Valo LLP. John practices in the area of commercial litigation, with a particular focus on contractual disputes, creditor remedies, asset recovery, enforcement of security, and insolvency. He often represents clients in complex business litigation disputes and appears before the Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario on a regular basis. John also represents trustees, receivers and secured creditors in various insolvency proceedings. John’s clients include mid-size and large companies across a number of industry sectors, financial institutions, religious and charitable organizations.

John has a B.A. from the University of Toronto and J.D., Thomas M. Cooley Law School (Michigan). He was called to the New Jersey State Bar in 1997, the New York State Bar in 1998 and the Ontario Bar in 1999. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Professor Deep Saini
Vice-President & Principal, University of Toronto Mississauga

Professor Deep SainiProfessor Deep Saini has been Vice-President and Principal at University of Toronto Mississauga since 2010. He has overseen the opening of the new Instructional Centre, the completion of the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex and inaugural plans for a $52.5 million reconstruction of the North and Davis Buildings.

Born in India, Professor Saini holds undergraduate and master’s degrees at the Punjab Agricultural University. He holds a doctorate from the University of Adelaide in Australia and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alberta. He has held senior posts at Université de Montréal and the University of Waterloo.

Professor Saini has played numerous leadership roles both within his profession and more broadly including serving as president of the Canadian Society of Plant Physiologists and the Federation of Canadian Plant Science Societies. He joined United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Motilall Sarjoo
President, Brampton-Mississauga District Labour Council

Motilall Sarjoo Motilall Sarjoo (SARJ) is a long time resident of Brampton, Ontario. He is employed by Chrysler Canada at the Brampton Assembly Plant, home of the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and the Chrysler 300C.

Sarj is a full-time workplace trainer at this facility and from time to time facilitates other programs for the CAW National Union at the Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. He is the President of the Brampton-Mississauga & District Labour Council and Co-Chair of CAW Local 1285 Union in Politics Committee. He is a dedicated volunteer working tirelessly for the betterment of all in our communities, provinces and entire country respectively. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Narendra Shah
Chief Operating Officer, Mississauga-Halton Local Health Integration Network

Narendra ShahNarendra Shah has held several health service executive roles in hospitals, Ontario government and in regional health system over the past 30 years. He has been recognized for his visionary leadership, team work and customer first focus in transformation of the health care system. He has a reputation for successful execution of major pioneering strategies including leading new organizations and complex regional and provincial initiatives. He is the Chief Operating Officer of the Mississauga Halton LHIN.

He was the executive lead responsible for an innovative Supports for Daily Living program for seniors that received national recognition and the prestigious 3M Health Care Quality Team Award in 2011.

Mr. Shah has a master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and holds a Certified Health Executive designation. He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2009.

Norma Trim, CA
Chief Financial Officer and Commissioner of Corporate Services, Region of Peel

Norma TrimMs. Trim joined the Region of Peel staff in 2003 and was most recently Chief Financial Officer and Commissioner of Corporate Services. She has served in her current role since 2008. In her 29-year career, Ms. Trim has demonstrated financial expertise in a broad range of sectors, including municipal government, health care, pharmaceuticals, banking and consultancy.

Ms. Trim is a graduate of Mount St. Vincent University. She is a chartered accountant and has a Masters Certificate in Municipal Management. She has served as a community volunteer with youth and sport organizations in Caledon, where she currently resides. She was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2007.

Raj Venkataraman
Senior Relationship Manager, HSBC

Raj Venkataraman Raj Venkataraman is a corporate banker at HSBC Bank Canada. He is a first generation immigrant from India, who moved to Canada to pursue higher education at Acadia University, in Nova Scotia. He has a very diverse cultural exposure having lived in India, Singapore and Japan.

Mr. Venkataraman is passionate about creating community impact through transformational leadership and strives to give back to the community. He has been an Executive of the Young Leaders Council (YLC) of United Way of Peel Region for three years. In 2011, Raj was nominated for the Youth Agent of Change award, sponsored by the Centre for Social Innovation.

He was elected to United Way’s Board of Directors in 2011.

Shelley White
President and CEO, United Way of Peel Region

Shelley WhiteShelley White joined United Way in 2003 as Chief Executive Officer. She has over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and is an active leader in our community.

Since joining United Way, Shelley has helped to greatly increase United Way’s profile in our community. She is chair of the Healthy City Stewardship Centre, co-chair of the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group, Mississauga Summit and Peel Poverty Reduction Committee, is a member of Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council and Sheridan College Board of Directors, Fair Share Peel, the Success By 6 Council of Champions, and the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Steering Committee.

Shelley holds a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree from Brock University.
